National Five Year Development Plan II (FYDP II) and the Local Government Authorities

Early in 2016, the government launched the FYDP II, with the intention of addressing the shortfalls within the FYDP I and to provide a blueprint as Tanzania embarks on an industrialization path in the next five years (2016 – 2021). Referencing the FYDP I, the government recognized that the initial plan failed to achieve most of its targets.

Tanzania is a country with one of the youngest populations. While acknowledging that youth are significant assets for Tanzania’s attainment of sustainable development, the National Youth Development Policy recognizes the importance of preparing them as leaders and partners to drive the force, and to play a vital role in the socio-economic transformation of the nation. The youth population in Tanzania is projected to increase to 62 million under the UN Medium variant or 47.7 million under Low variant scenarios by 2065. With the projected increase, it is important to recognize that Tanzania youth are diverse, and will continue to demonstrate varying skills, exposures and interests. Therefore, it is paramount to comprehensively explore the holistic mechanisms they can relate to, bring them on board to champion their voices and sustainable development.
